Frequently Asked Questions


  • How to create a personal account?
    You can sign up for an APITree account for free. Go to sign up, enter your email, choose a unique username and enter your password. No credit card information is required!
  • How to create an organization?
    Login to your account. Make sure your email address is verified. Click on the "+" symbol in the navbar and click on "Create organization". Fill in all required information and you're done. Your new organization will automatically be assigned to the "Free" plan.
  • How to use APITree for teams?
    To use the APITree team feature you need to create an organization first - see "How to create an organization?". Once set up, you need to upgrade to one of the paid plans, "Team" or "Enterprise". Then, to set up a team, invite users to your organization. Learn how teams work.
  • How to verify my email address?
    You have to verify your email address after sign up, or when you change your email address. We will send you an email with a link you to complete the verification process. If you do not receive the email, go to your profile page and click on the button "Resend mail to verify email address". If an email address is undeliverable it will stay unverified. Without verifying your email address your account has limited functionality.


  • How to create a private API documentation?
    In order to create a private API documentation you need to upgrade to a paid plan. Go to your billing dashboard, click on the button "Change Plan" and provide all required information.
  • Which API specification formats are supported?
    We support OAS (OpenAPI Specification) 2.0 (fka Swagger Version 2.0) and OAS 3. You can upload existing specifications in JSON and YAML format or start from scratch using our online editor. Please note that not every aspect of OAS 3 is currently supported. The following parts are missing: Callback Object, Discriminator Object, Encoding Object (partially supported), Server Variable Object (partially supported).
    Note: The same limitations apply for the export formats.

  • Which payment methods do you accept?
    We accept PayPal and all major credit cards: Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover (US + Europe), JCB (US + Europe), and Diners (US + Europe). Prices are in EUR.
  • Can I pay by invoice?
    We only offer this payment option to our enterprise customers on the "Enterprise" plan. Please contact us.
  • Can I change my billing period?
    Upgrading from monthly to annually payment is always possible. If you want to switch back, your plan remains unchanged until the end of the current billing period. Afterwards we automatically change the billing period for you.
  • Can I change my plan at any time?
    Upgrading a plan is always possible. If you want to downgrade, your plan remains unchanged until the end of the current billing period. Afterwards we automatically downgrade you to the new plan.
